[Abk. für Resource Reservation Protocol, dt. »Protokoll zur Reservierung von Resourcen«], ein Kommunikationsprotokoll für die Anforderung und Reservierung von Bandbreite in TCP/IP-Netzwerken (TCP/IP). Um Video- oder Audiodaten in Echtzeit übertragen zu können, muss das Netz eine bestimmte sog. Service-Qualtität (QoS, Quality of Service) garantieren können. Diese ist durch die Bandbreite, Verzögerung und den maximalen zeitlichen Versatz des Eintreffens von Datenpaketen gekennzeichnet. RSVP erlaubt es den Endsystemen bzw. Anwendungen, Übertragungen mit festgelegten QoS-Parametern beim Netzwerk anzufordern. Die Verantwortung für die Reservierung von Ressourcen liegt beim Empfänger einer Übertragung. Der Sender unterstützt ihn dabei durch die Beschreibung des zu erwartenden Datenstroms.
